Dental Veneers
If your teeth have any imperfections or areas where their appearance could be improved, you may want to speak with your dentist at your next appointment. Many patients want to improve their smile and enhance the look of their teeth.
Veneers are very thin shells that are used to cover the visible part of teeth. By covering these areas, your imperfections will be hidden from view and your mouth will look more balanced. Your dentist will match the color of your veneers with the shade of your natural teeth so that they blend together perfectly. Some dental issues patients may be able to correct with veneers include:
- Cracks or chips in teeth
- Teeth that are misshapen or crooked
- Stains that cannot be bleached
- Gaps or uneven spaces between teeth
When speaking with your dentist about veneers, you may be asked whether you prefer porcelain veneers or composite veneers. Let’s explore the difference between the two and which one might be best for your teeth.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are custom made and resist stains. They last for a very long time and look just like your natural teeth. These will need to be made in a lab so that they fit onto the affected tooth perfectly and does not move or wiggle when eating, speaking, laughing, and performing other activities.
Composit Veneers
Composite veneers are made of a bonding material often used for fillings. The material is matched to the color of your teeth so that it looks natural. These veneers can be applied in one visit and are easy to fix when they’re broken. However, even though they are more affordable, they don’t last as long.
